Growing a dev-first application into a polished brand with two distinct offerings

b2b, b2c, saas, responsive, mobile, branding, marketing

FanAngel’s fundraising platform was built as a low-cost, responsive web application for teams to crowdsource financial support. Although functional, the brand’s outdated aesthetic and inconsistency reduced trust among potential clients, while process inefficiencies slowed down adoption and thwarted fundraising efforts.

Elevating the brand to build confidence with target audiences

Coaches and athletic directors have many choices when it comes to fundraising, so first impressions matter. We overhauled the marketing website, added a how-it-works video, and carried the new design system throughout the platform and various email communications. This improved perceptions among decision-makers as well as among family and friends choosing to donate via FanAngel.

Automating processes and connecting disparate systems for a better user experience

Working alongside FanAngel Campaign Coaches, we integrated the “start a campaign” process into Hubspot Smart CRM via forms and customized landing pages. This reduced data entry and allowed us to create a pipeline view for the Campaign Coaches that they had previously tracked with spreadsheets.

Insights & iteration

Identifying an untapped revenue opportunity

Through our work with FanAngel, we discovered that students and coaches often ask businesses for donations. We proposed a sponsorship model—flat or matching—that rewarded companies with prominent ad placement and incentivized donors to achieve the matching threshold (when applicable).

Designing a complementary mobile app for secure team communication

Alongside the fundraising platform, we designed a mobile native team communication app to provide safer, more transparent communication between coaches and players (who are often minors). In addition to the end user app, we created the UX/UI for an administrator role to search and monitor chats across multiple teams, like an athletic director might do for a high school.

Jennie and Maddox took FanAngel to the next level, elevating both the platform and the brand. They considered the entire experience—not just a few touchpoints—resulting in a suite of products that athletes, coaches, and donors want to use. Their contributions set us up for success as we pursue new opportunities beyond fundraising.
